Originally developed in Switzerland in 1980, CEREC was first utilized in a dental practice in 1987. This technology is a powerful computer-aided design and manufacturing technology called CAD/CAM, which allows our office to custom create tooth-colored restorations and crowns in our office in a single visit. Our CEREC is the 4th generation CAD/CAM technology and the most current at the time. By using CAD/CAM technology, we are able to provide accurate and beautiful restorations that are made from the same durable and high quality materials we have always used. This means benefits on several levels. First and very importantly, only a small amount of tooth preparation is required, leaving more of your healthy tooth. Secondly, with CEREC, you can have a strong and beautiful restoration in just one appointment!

The first step in using CEREC is the preparation of the tooth. This preparation is very similar to the traditional preparation with the difference being less tooth structure is removed. The next step requires a digital image of the tooth using a special optical infrared camera. The camera sends an image to the computer detailing precise images and measurements of the tooth.
After we have carefully designed the restoration for margins, anatomical details and, we select, using the same high quality materials dental laboratories use, the proper shade for your specific tooth. This material is then placed into the milling machine, which, in just a few minutes, shapes it into a custom-fitted restoration.
After the milling process is complete, the following steps are the same as what we have traditionally done. We try the new restoration for fit and comfort, make any necessary adjustments and bond or cement the crown in place. Finally, we check your bite and make any necessary final adjustments.
