Digital Imaging

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-Rays are a technology that enables us to replace the use of traditional X-rays. With traditional X-rays, we were required to place a film packet in your mouth, take the X-ray and then develop the film packet in chemical solutions - much like the traditional pictures people take. However, like the digital pictures of today, we take digital X-Rays of the tooth creating greater image quality and less radiation, 85% less radiation. The packet for digital X-Rays is connected to a computer in which the image is taken, viewed and stored in the patient's own chart. This not only eliminates the radiation exposure to you, the patient, but also eliminates the chemical exposure for the environment.

Digital X-rayWith our digital X-Rays, we are able to view the X-ray in greater detail, email the X-ray to a referring specialist and store the image for greater clarity years down the road. First and foremost, the benefits of being digital are in the safety and well being of our patients and stewardship of the environment. Secondly, our Kodak RVG 6100 Digital Radiography System has the highest resolution digital imaging sensor on the market today.  As such, the quality of the image resolution is fundamental in providing a confident diagnoses and ultimately to the quality of patient care.  Feel free to ask us about our digital X-Rays or to see the images we take.

Intraoral Camera

While X-rays provide valuable information that we cannot receive from other sources, they cannot show you everything that is going on in your mouth. That is why Dr. Hakes has invested in intraoral cameras. These cameras are highly advanced pieces of diagnostic equipment that allows you to see what we see inside your mouth.

Kodak 1500 Intraoral CameraI/O Camera with light source

The intraoral camera handpiece is approximately the size and shape of a dental mirror. It has a built-in light source and serves as a tiny video camera that allows us to zoom in on one tooth or give you a video tour of your entire mouth. The images are displayed on a television or computer monitor, so you will be able to see issues such as worn or broken fillings, cracked teeth, plaque deposits, cavities next to fillings and excessive wear and tear. We can also print an image for you to take home with you.

The intraoral camera allows you to be an active partner in your dental health and treatment by enabling you to see what we see inside your mouth. With a clear understanding of your dental conditions, you will be able to make educated treatment decisions with confidence.
